Determination of Warp Weight and Weft Weight in Denier System
Denier:
The number or count in the denier system is the weight in grains of 9000m.
Denier = weight in grams of 9000 meters length
We can determine the Warp weight and Weft weight in Denier system by the following formulas –
Weight of Warp yarn (Kg)= (Total warp yarn X Length of warp yarn X Denier) / (9000 X 1000)
Weight of Weft yarn (Kg)
= (Picks/cm X Fabric length X Reed Warp width X Denier) / (9000 X 1000)
Mathematical Problem:
The construction is (90 X 85)/(70D X 70D) X 60”, if crimp of warp and weft is 4% and 6%., then calculate the amount of yarn to produce 100 yds fabric.
Solution:
The construction is (90 X 85)/(70D X 70D) X 60” means the following –
- No. of warp yarn per cm = 90
- No. of weft yarn per cm = 85
- Count of warp yarn = 70 denier
- Count of weft yarn = 70 denier
- Fabric width = 60 inch
- Warp yarn crimp = 4%
- Weft yarn crimp = 6%
Tape length of warp yarn = 100 X (100 + Crimp)/100
= 104 yds
= 104 X 36 X 2.54
= 9509.76 cm
= 95.1 m
Total no. of warp yarn = Fabric width (cm) X No. of warp yarn per cm
= 60 X 2.54 X 90
= 13716
Total length of warp yarn = Tape length X No. of warp yarn
= 95.1 X 13716
= 1304391.60 m
Weight of warp yarn = (Length of warp yarn X Warp count) / 9000
= (1304391.60 X 70) / 9000
= 10145.27 gm
= 10.145 kg
Tape length of weft yarn = Fabric width X (100 + Crimp)/1000
= 60” X (100 + 6) / 100
= 63.6 inch
= 63.6 X 2.54
= 161.54 cm
No. of weft yarn = Fabric length X No. of weft yarn per cm
= 91.44 X 85 (1 yd = 91.44 cm)
= 7772.40
Length of weft yarn = Tape length of width X No. of weft yarn
= 161.54 X 7772.40
= 1255553.5 m
Weight of weft yarn = (Weft yarn length X Count) / 9000
= (1255553.5 X 70) / 9000
= 976542 gm
= 9.77 kg
Total weight of yarn = Weight of warp yarn X Weight of weft yarn
= 10.145 + 9.77 kg
= 19.91 kg
So, Total 19.91 kg yarn is required (ANS).
