Fabric Weight Calculation Using Fabric Specification

Some Important Fabric Specification for Fabric Weight Calculation

What does fabric specification mean?

Fabric specification is one of the most important fundamental things in fabric weight calculation. It’s a kind of short form used in view of a long description. So that, when we starts for a calculation, it becomes possible to save time and easing the calculation. Let us clear this concept……

                                            Warp count x weft count
Fabric specification = .......................................................
                                          Ends per unit x picks per unit

Some most popular commercial fabrics with their specification:

                   30 x 30 tex
1. Jeans: .............................
                36 x 26 per cm.

                        15/2 x 15/2 tex
2. Gabardine: .....................................
                        64 x 42 per cm.

                 20ˢ x 20ˢ
3. Denim: .........................
                  90 x60

                14 x 16tex
4. Drill: ..........................
              50 x 32per cm.

                  14/2 x 60tex
5. Poplin: ............................
                 60 x 14per cm.

                      33ˢ x 18ˢ
6. Sheeting: ...............................
                     18 x 18-24

                      27 x 38tex
7. Shirting: ..................................
                   22 x 26-8 per cm.

Mathematical problem:

                                    10 x 8
Fabric specification: ……………. X 60”
                                   70 x 50

Calculate the weight of 1000 meter?

Solution:

As we have known, fabric specification’s elaborate form

                                      Warp count x weft count
Fabric specification = .......................................................
                                    Ends per unit x picks per unit

So here, EPI = 70 and warp count = 10

Total no. of warp = 70 x 60 = 4200

Length of each end = 1000m + 1000 x 3% = 1030 m [crimp=3%]

Total length of warp = 4200 x 1030 = 4326000 m

                  L x w
Now, Ne =………………
                  W x l

              4326000 x 0.4536
=> 10 = ……………………………
              W x 840 x 0.91

             4326000 x 0.4536
=> W = ………………………………
              10 x 840 x 0.91

=>W = 256.71 kg

PPI = 50 and weft count = 8

Total no. of weft = 50 x 39.37 x 1000

Length of each weft = 60 + 60 x 5% = 63” = 1.6 m

Total length of weft = 50 x 39.37 x 1000 x 1.6

                   L x w
Now, Ne = ………………
                  W x l

              50 x 39.37 x 1000 x 1.6
=> 10 = ………………………………
                 W x 840 x 0.91

=> W = 233.62 Kg

Total weight of the fabric = 233.62 + 256.7 = 490.33 kg (ANS)
