Combing:
The process of straightening and paralyzing of fibers and the removal of short fibers and impurities by using a comb on combs assisted by brushes and rollers is called combing. Its main purpose is to remove short fiber than a predetermined length so as to enable the spinner to produce finer yarn.
Example:
Calculate the production per day of a combing machine when,
Nip/min = 220
No. of head = 8
Feed/nip = 7mm
Lap weight = 1000 frains/yd
Efficiency = 90%
Noil = 15%
Solution:
Given that,
Nip/min = 220
Feed/nip = 7mm nip
= 0.007m
= 0.007 X 1.09 yds
= 0.00763 yds
No. of head = 8
Feed lap weight = 1000 grains/yds
1000
= …………. Lbs/yds
7000
Efficiency = 90%
90
= ………
100
Noil % = 15
Production per day,
100-Noil%
= Nip/min X Feed/nip X No. of head X Feed lap weight X Efficiency X …………. X 60 X 24
100
1000 90 100-15
= 220 X 0.00763 X 8 X ……… X ………. X ………… X 60 X 24 lbs
7000 100 100
= 2113.31 lbs (ANS)
