How to Calculate Hank in Spinning:
This constant of 8.33 can be very conveniently used in determining the hank or count of any stage material, namely, lap, sliver, roving or yarn. The constant 8.33 is the weight in grains of one yard of 1s count.1 pound =7000 grains
1 hank = 840 yards
So 1 yard weight = 7000/840 = 8.33
Mathematical Problem and Solution:
Problem: 01
A 30 yard length lap weights (after deducting the lap rod weight) 26.25 lbs. Find out the hank lap?
Solution:
One yard of lap weights = 26.25 / 30 lbs
= 14 ozs.
Converting ozs. to grains = (14/16) x7000
Hank Lap = 8.33 ÷ { (14/16) x7000 } = 0.00136 (ANS.)
The Method Behind this math is Desired Hank= 8.33 / weight in grains of 1 yard of the material
Problem: 02
5 yard length of draw frame sliver weights 12 dwt. 20 grains. Find what will be hank sliver?
Solution:
One yard sliver weight = 308 / 5 grains
So hank sliver = 8.33 ÷ ( 308 / 5) =0.135 (ANS.)
Problem: 03
Average weight of 15 yard lengths of slubbing material is 10 dwt. Then find out the hank roving of the slubbing material ?
Solution:
One yard of slubbing roving = { (10 x 24) ÷ 15 } [as we know 1 dwt. =24 grain]
Hank roving = 8.33 ÷ { (10 x 24) ÷ 15 } = 0.5 (ANS.)
Problem: 04
120 yards of a sample course yarn weight 5 dwt. 5 grains. So what will be the count of the yarn ?
Solution:
Weight of one yarn = 125 / 120 grains
So the count of yarn = 8.33 ÷ (125 / 120) = 8s (ANS.)
Problem: 05
If the average weight of one yard of lap is 12 ounces, then what will be the hank lap ?
Solution:
12 ounces = (12 / 16) x 7000 = 5250 grains
Weight of 1 yard length of 1s count = 8.33
So hank lap = Constant ÷ Weight in grains of 1 yard
= 8.33 / 5250
= 0.00159 (ANS.)
Problem: 06
The weight of 30 yards of yarn is 50 grains . Then Find out the count of yarn?
Solution:
Weight of 1 yard is = 50/30 grains
So the count of yarn will be = (8.33 x 30) ÷ 50 = 5s (ANS.)
